A modular system for reliable partial discharge testing in production and lab environments

The Solfas STA Advanced Series is a modular system for reliable partial discharge testing in production and laboratory environments. It integrates high-voltage generation, PD detection, voltage measurement, and an automated switching matrix for multiple winding configurations.

Its software enables configurable test sequences with controlled voltage ramp-up and precise PDIV measurement, while automatically generating standardized reports for consistent and traceable results.

STA System Overview – Modular Concept

Base System

Partial Discharge Measurement – GTU860

The integrated GTU860 is a compact and versatile partial discharge measuring device for routine and laboratory testing. Its highly sensitive UHF PD detection and strong low-frequency interference suppression enable reliable measurements with various test voltage waveforms and ensure precise, reproducible test results.

Technical Background: Why PD Measurements Matter

Partial discharge measurement allows a more precise evaluation of insulation quality than conventional methods. Measuring PDIV and PDEV shows the voltage levels where PD activity starts and stops, providing measurable insulation quality indicators while controlled PD levels help prevent insulation damage during testing.

Measurable Insulation Quality – How It Works

PDIV & PDEV

PDIV defines the voltage at which partial discharge activity starts during increasing voltage, while PDEV defines the voltage at which the activity stops again during decreasing voltage.

RPDIV & RPDEV

RPDIV defines the voltage at which repetitive partial discharge activity starts during increasing voltage, while RPDEV defines the voltage at which the repetitive activity stops again during decreasing voltage.

STA Systems Support the Following Standards

IEC/TS 60034-27-5

Off-line partial discharge tests on winding insulation of rotating electrical machine during repetitive impulse voltage excitation.

IEC/TS 61934
